We are setting up a server to be our backup in case of a system failure. It will run a backup and restore from the live system to this backup server.
How is it best to license the backup server?
Any other advice someone could give with this setup would be much appreciated!
Thanks

The licensing of the backup server has to be identical to the licensing of the production server because, if you failover, it will be doing the same processing as the production server.
Here's MS's licensing FAQ:

The only exception to this is if you use an active/passive server. You then do not have to license the passive server. If you do this, you "cannot" use the passive server for anything.

To clarify, Johnny, active/passive refers to server clustering. I assume you're not using that since you said you would restore a backup of your production server to your backup server.
