SQL Cluster MSDTC error

  • I'm trying to configure SQL 2000 Active/Passive Cluster but I'm get this MSDTC error. I can't failover to the Passive node when I try to move the resources. Have anyone experienced this and can help me? Thanks in advance. This is the error msg:

MS DTC has determined that the cluster service is installed but not running when MS DTC was started. MS DTC will continue to startup but it will not failover. Additionally, if the cluster service is started then please shut down this instance of MS DTC as it will become unusable. Error Specifics: .\msdtc.cpp:986, CmdLine: C:\WINNT\System32\msdtc.exe, Pid: 680

  • This error is expected behavior as MSDTC isstarting up before the cluster service and can be ignored if they do not require MSDTC as a clustered resource. A workaround is set MSDTC service dependence from Cluster Service on both node

Have you clustered MSDTC? If not follow the step in http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;290624

  • Thanks for the info. Unfortunately, I didn't have a chance to test this setup. I uninstall MSDTC and reconfigure our Cluster environement because we are having issue getting resources to failover to the passive node.
