I'm looking for two programs (freeware I hope). One that I can install on our servers so if one goes down or has a problem I'm notified. Second is a program that I can use to alert people in the company when I'm out of the office (lunch, meeting, gone for the day). Only a small handfull of individuals have outlook so that's not an option. Just something I can click on and perhaps send a netsend message to everybody on the network.

I can't address most of your question, but you can NET SEND to an entire domain by providing the domain name. I've done that on accident before. It was entertaining. Thankfully we were mostly an OS2 shop at the time and so only the windows clients (and servers) got the message.
