Problem uninstalling MS SQL Server

  • Hi guys,

I have a corrupted copy of Microsoft SQL Server installed on my computer which I intend to uninstall.

When I try running uninstallation from Add/Remove programs, I get an error stating uninst.isu file not found and uninstallation cannot be completed

I thought well let me just run the installation again, overwrite this corrupted installation and that would hopefully fix the problem.  However running the installation again; new copy of SQL server is installed. I can see 2 copies of SQL Server in Add/Remove programs.

Please help!! What should I do to uninstall this corrupted copy and do a fresh installation.

  • Hi Newbie!

I hope you got your problem resolved from your post from 2004...

Do you remember how you got the SQL Server completed uninstalled? I am running into the same problem. I have two instances of SQL Server installed now and cannot uninstall them because it cannot locate the uninst.isu file.

    Thanks

Personally, I would feel rather uneasy about it. I would reinstall OS, of course if it was possible.

  • To late, I already did what the microsoft article recommended. Scary. I have installed developer edition and all is well. It's only a personal laptop, not so much worry. Lesson learned! Keep the cd's handy!

    Thanks

  • I had the same problem tonight, when I try to uninstall SQL 2000 Server, it didn't find the uninstall file, so what I try is reinstall SQL from de CD with setup.bat but I select modify and add one option. Then after the installation I reboot and start the uninstall from the add and remove program and SQL was remove without any problem.

    Hope this help.

    Bye

  • Tried most ways to uninstall SQL 200 and get the can't find the IsUnist.exe file. This methoed has been the only way I can uninstall SQL 200 as well.

  • Worked for me too.

  • Actually, let me more clear. The uninstall "succeeds" after adding a single option, but I think that uninstallation only removes the registry settings. In any event. That's a big help, of course.

  • I also tried with setup CD to create 'uninst.isu" file using Upgrade option.

This does not worked for me.

Manually uninstall ed as per the MS article.
