Strange S2K vs S7 behavior

  • We have a system which has two versions, one which runs against SQL Server 7.0 and another running against S2K.  The developers claim the code is identical.  For the moment let's give them the benefit of the doubt.

The 7.0 version has, so far, been able to handle as many simultaneous user requests as have been placed upon it.  S2K, on the other hand, seems to falter when about 80 users go at it.

I am certainly at a loss as to why this may be.  Does anyone have any useful suggestions?

Oh, I forgot, the S2K version is running on Windows Server 2003.  Could that be the problem?
