    where to download the TDS 8.0 protocol document?

    I don't know much about the protocol-level stuff but I found this site via Google: http://www.freetds.org/tds.html. I am not sure if this is 100% correct since the page states "This document attempts to cover the TDS protocol..."

    Searching the Microsoft web site was not so useful

    That's the bset link I know of. AFAIK, MS has not published this.
