We are trying to set up a SQL Server 7.0 for Distribution. The wizard is reporting that the @@SERVERNAME is NULL and to run sp_addserver. We followed the instructions to the T, but the error persists. Any suggestions?

I think I've seen this before when we had to rename a server. Check the sysservers table in the master db and make sure that srvid 0 has the correct name of your server in the srvname and datasource fields. If not, you'll have to go to the server properties, allow updates to system tables, change the values, turn the allow updates back off, and stop/restart sql server.

I had the same problem and also tried the instructions given in BOL. We had to Reboot the server ( not just restart the Service ) in order to clear the Problem.

Is it registered in EM as that name, not as local?
