I'm trying to install the evaluation edition of SQL Server 2000 on my PC that is running XP Pro. I chose all the default options, including "Use the same account for each service. Auto start..." and "Use the Local System account". When the installation finishes and I reboot, the MSSQLServer indicator in the system tray shows a red mark. When I right-click and choose "Start/Continue", it comes back with the error "The service did not start due to a logon error.", then "An Error 1069 occured when trying to perform this service operation on the MSSQLServer Service."
Before installing it, I had logged on to Windows with an account that has administrator privileges (it was not a limited account).
The computer is part of a workgroup, but no other PCs were invoived in this.
This is the third attempt to install sql server (after each of the first two attempts I did a complete uninstall).
Please help.

Which evaluation edition are you trying to install? Take a look at 'Hardware and Software Requirements for Installing SQL Server 2000' in Books On Line. You may need to install Personal, Developer, or Desktop edition instead of Standard or Enterprise.
