Hi ,
I am trying to install MS SQL 2000 Personal edition on my W2K machine. The entire installation runs fine , but right at the end when it tries to start and configure the server, it logs the following error in the sqlstp.log file:
Starting Service ...
Latin1_General_CI_AS
-m -Q -T4022 -T3659
Connecting to Server ...
driver={sql server};server=mydbserver;UID=sa;PWD=;database=master
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][Shared Memory]General network error. Check your network documentation.
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][Shared Memory]ConnectionRead (recv()).
any suggestion what could be wrong. Have tried to install without Network connection, with Windows Login Mode and Mixed mode etc.
Regards,
Ami

Hi Jones,
Well I think that it tries to start the Server (I am not sure that it is started), since the installation is not completed when I get the error message.
Hope this helps.

Ami,
I'm not sure if this will help, but when installing MSDE on a number of Win2k machines, if File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks was not installed, the installation would not complete correctly. It did not have to be enabled (un-check it in the network connection properties), but it did have to be installed. I never saw any documentation from MS on this, but found it on the dbforums.com site (when I try to return to the page where I found it - the site is gone, sorry).
Hope this helps,
Steve Mac
