A job failed with no reason

  • Hi,

I have run into a problem.

A job including several stored procedures on SQL2K worked very well for a while, but it failed two days ago.

The message of Job History is "The job failed. The Job was invoked by Schedule 40 (dailyEvents). The last step to run was step 1 (Events). "

The W2K Event Viewer showed me almost the same message.

The funny thing is I run the job on QA, every thing goes smoothly and the correct result comes out. Does it mean the SPs are fine?

If SPs are fine, why doesn¡¯t the job work? Do you have any ideas?

    Thanks for your help!

  • Any changes made to your job such as service pack, job owner, SQL Agent account/password, permissions if there are commands in the SP that have to access share directory?

  • I use System Account for both SQL Server and SQL Server Agent. No change to dbo.

    Any other possible reasons?

    Thanks

  • Open the job "Properties" dialog. Go to "Steps" and open "Edit" dialog for step one. Go to "Advanced" tab. Specify "output file" and check "Append output" checkbox. Save the changes ant try to re-run the job manually.

  • I got the reason by using 'Output file'. Some date made me crazy.

    Appreciate you both.
