This is insane. I have 3 SQLServer 2000 boxes. One of them is the old development box and is going to be abandoned in favor of a new box. We are attempting to ensure that the new machine and it's software are identical to the production server. After installing the software I created the DSN for the linked server and set the path to the UNC for the accounting test installation. I can browse and see the list of tables there. I then add a new linked server exactly the way I have done on both the production and old development SQL boxes. No tables. I dropped that linked server and on the new machine changed the path to the accounting production installation (different machine) and then added the linked server again, this time tables show. The linked servers on both the other boxes work fine. The only difference is the different box. Why can I see link to the production data but not the test data? I am about to tear my hair out. Help!

Strange. I don't have a good answer, but are you positive the old dev box and the prod box are setup the same? No "test" things done to the dev box and not the production box?

The only thing that I have discovered that is different is that there are more provider names in the GUI combo box. Even though this would normally give pause the fact is that I can, on the new box, connect to the production accounting box data using the same provider info and virtually the same DSN (the only difference being the path). Makes me wonder if there might be some sort of connectivity issue between the new box and the test accounting box. But if that were true would I be able to browse the table names in the DSN GUI? :^/

Got it! I would've sworn... Strangely enough, the server was set to use the system account instead of a specific account (like the others). Also strange is the fact that test data is more secure than production data. Thanks again for your attention!
