What do you do when it's slow?

  • No, not your database- the work... when all your jobs succeeded last night, no users are complaining, you've reviewed all your logs, the sqlservercentral forums dont have any interesting problems to interest you... then what?

  • Fire up an MCM training video.

Edit: that's a hypothetical answer, I haven't been in a situation with nothing to do for months.

Look around for the flying pigs.

Honestly, it's never come up. I always have something to do. If not directly work, then SSC and other sites for information. There's always something to read up on at the very least. Latest security bulletins is a way to burn more than a few hours and is both important to know and part of my work.

Honestly, I'm here on SSC when it's slow, or I'm off trying to research something, or still trying to chew through Itzik's book, but people around here feel wierd about me sitting there reading, even a tech manual.

________Stop thinking about what you want to do to a ROW... think, instead, of what you want to do to a COLUMN.
