I realize this subject has been beaten to death but I have a problem with it that is driving me nuts.
I have a SQL Server 2000 installation (version # 8.00.2040) that is running on a Windows 2003 server. I have the /3GB and /PAE switch set in the boot.ini and I have AWE enabled. I have also verified that the SQL Server service account, a domain account, has rights to the "Lock Pages in Memory" right on the server.
When I look at the "Total Server Memory" and "Target Server Memory" in PERFMON, I only see about 2.7 GB available.
I have another server with the same installation, except it is on Windows Server 2000. When I look at these same counters on this server, the numbers are what I expect (about 7GB, due to setting that as Max Memory).
Any ideas why I can't see the extra memory usage?
This machine has been rebooted several times before and I know I checked to make sure AWE is enabled but I am going to do it again as soon as possible so I can recheck the server log on startup. Unfortunately, that could be tonight because I can't bring it down during the day. I just wanted to ask if anyone else has had this problem and how they resolved it.

Did you remember to modify the max server memory configuration?

Yes, the max server memory is set at 7168. This has been confirmed both graphically and using sp_configure.
