We're going to have to move from SQL Server 2000 to either SS2K5 or SS2K8. Will we be able to run our DTS processes against both of those releases? I'd rather go to SS2K8, but not if it's going to be more difficult than going to SS2K5 as far as our DTS processing is concerned.
The DTS processes we have are temporary. We're using them to convert from another system, and once the last installation is converted, we won't need them anymore.
Thanks,
Mattie

There is a DTS runtime that you can use to run packages.

Steve,
Thanks. Will that runtime work within SQL Server Management Studio, or do we need to keep pieces of SS2K around?

The runtime component and DTS Designer are used in SSMS, but if you have the option of keeping a SQL 2000 instance with Enterprise Manager, you may find it's easier to create and modify packages. This link give details for DTS in SQL 2008, but it also applies to SQL 2005: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb500440.aspx

Greg,
Thanks so much. This is exactly the discussion I was looking for.
