What is the purpose of third party products?

  • One product has its own forum and I think it is overkilled.  Besides you missed a lot of softwares.  Why can't you open 'Third part products' under SQL Server Central.

    my 2 cents.

  • Which product are you talking about? Microsoft Access? If so, you have to realize that SQL Server is commonly linked to Access databases and Access is commonly used as a front-end for SQL Server. Likewise, Oracle is often linked to SQL Server.

  • I believe she's talking about all the "ApexSQL", "Idera" etc. that have their own forums under "third party products"...also believe that Steve must've done this with his sense of fair play after all that talk by that ApexSQL guy (Brian ?!) in the wake of the RG takeover news...

**ASCII stupid question, get a stupid ANSI !!!**

  • Ah!!!!!!!!!! I had no idea what you were talking about (I rarely go to the forum home. I just click on Active Topics in the menu). Cool change. I actually like it.

But the original poster's comment about "One product has its own forum" makes me think they are talking about Access as that is the only one I see with it's 'own forum'. The rest are all grouped into the 'Third Party Products' Forum.

But again.....we have a poster who is giving minimal information.

  • ...maybe this is a question of semantics...and we could have a whole new deviation/discussion from original thread at this point...

But I look at the "third party products" as a "group" under which we have the individual forums (fora ?!) for each of the products...from what I understand, she was saying that it's overkill to have one for each tool since that way some other tools that people use and like get left out...and that we should have everything clubbed under just one big umbrella of "third party products"...

  • Could be....interpretation is usually up to the reader unless the poster of the question is very clear on what they are asking/saying.

    -SQLBill

  • It was very clear.  To me, at any rate

I think one forum per company/package is too much.  I like the idea of one forum for the whole lot though.
