When results come out in text, you can search for a string (ctrl+f), instead, in grid mode you can not search in the results.

When results come out in text, you can search for a string (ctrl+f), instead, in grid mode you can not search in the results.
You can copy paste the grid easily to Excel though.
And with Text mode it's not easy to see how many rows were returned.
Another advantage of text is that is usually returns results much faster than the grid.
And it's better to test dynamic SQL 🙂

The first and the hardest SQL statement I have wrote- "select * from customers" - and I was happy and felt smart.

In SSMS 2008 r2, results could be copied only in grid mode or if the amount of the text is less than 2MB. If text is more than 2MB you should save results in a file.rpt

This QotD has become quite the "fun facts" collection about SSMS query results 😀

Show hide query results pane shortcut is changed in SQL Server 2012 version.
If the settings are imported from SQL Server 2008 settings, then it remain same CTRL +R. Otherwise CTRL+SHIFT+ALT+R will show hide the query result pane. (Show and hide the query result pane, not only to show)
But when I look into the reference link, it says
Show or hide the query results pane -> CTRL+R
Show the query results pane -> CTRL+SHIFT+ALT+R
What it means?

Well, that's what you get for time-travelling. 😛
