I have a database in mdb format that will not open. When I try to open the file I get an error:
"The Microsoft Access database engine stopped the process because you and another user are attempting to change data at the same time"
I was the only user accessing the database and this occurred after a compact/repair.
Any ideas on how to get the db working again?

That message usually means you have a lock file for that database that didn't get properly deleted when Access was closed. Check for a file in the same directory as the database, and with the same name but with a .LDB file extension. See if you can delete that file and then open the database. Doing a compact and repair essentially locks the database, creates a copy of the database, deletes the original, renames the copy to the original name, and then removes the lock. If something goes amiss during that process you can end up with a hung lock file.
