Well, with the popularity of the baseball and fantasy football threads, I figured that I'd take it upon myself to start a thread for all sports talk!
I didn't want people who are into college sports, soccer (um, football, for all of you outside the US! :-)), basketball, hockey, cricket, etc. etc. etc. to feel left out!!!
So here we go, sports fans -- let the discussion begin!

My first (well, second) post on this thread . . .
How about my Syracuse Orange coming back from 15 points down in the fourth quarter to win in overtime last night?!?!?!?
Woo-hoo!!! GO ORANGE!!!

Hey, I'll take what I can get! As (former SU) Coach MacPherson once said, "a win is a win is a win is a win!"

I'm outside the US, and I would never dream of calling soccer "football". Soccer is a game played by prima donnas (albeit male ones) and watched by hooligans and idiots.
Football is played with either 15 or 13 men in each team (different versions of the game), without the masses of body armour needed for the American substitute for watching paint dry that has stolen the name, has goal way above ground level, and is generally associated with fairly civilised players and quite decent spectators. You USAnians may call it "rugger".

Having played rugby and football, I have to say that I cannot fathom how anyone finds more action in hockey or soccer than American football. The strategy, the speed of the game, and the start, smash, excitement is something I love.
And it was cool to see the boys on the blue carpet (Boise St) open with a win over the SEC.

Just curious -- any college hockey fans on here?

What's hockey? :-):-P
Growing up in VA, we never had hockey or lacrosse in school. When I arrived at Syracuse, they were surprises to me.

Yeah, hockey wasn't big (actually, non-existant) at SU when I was there (although they do have a varsity women's team now). I caught the bug when I went to grad school (at RPI, which plays NCAA D-I ice hockey). Even now, I still have hockey season tickets!
SU has talked about starting varsity men's hockey, but they have some issues to get that to work (facilities, funding, Title IX, etc.). If SU and RPI ever play each other, I'll probably be the only person in the Field House rooting for a tie!

that was cool. I happened to turn on the last 2 min of the UM/ND game last night to see a stunning finish: http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/recap?gameId=312530130

I had that game on in the background. Nice comeback by Michigan!
Anyone catch the Cowboys vs. Jets last night?

Grrr, watched it late on tape. @#%$%#$ Romo, two mistakes to ruin the game. Just throw the ball away and take the 3, then don't press against Revis. Sheeesh

Tomy Romo completely blew that game last night. I was dreading a Jets comeback all night long...just seems like Dallas can't get over the hump in the big games...

So, what are people's thoughts on college conference realignment?
Speaking as a Syracuse alumnus, I don't like the move to the ACC, but I understand why they're doing it. Personally, I'm very disappointed with (Big East commisioner) John Marinatto.
