Hi,
It happens so many times where the database servers are get restarted when even the infrastructure team are not aware on the incident.
The infra guys always tell us that the company do not have the monitoring tools to monitor the servers.
Any idea if there's a free software on how to monitor our server especially my database servers?
My database is running under windows 2000 SP4 and 2003 SP2. The database itself is SQL server 2000 SP4.
Appreciate your feedback.

stating the obvious, you can't have SQL server watch itself..if it goes down, it can't report. you need something running with the operating system.
I know over at sourceforge.net there is a bunch; i tried "kimono" a long time ago, and it monitored services services and had the ability to email;
go to sourceforge and search for "service monitor"; i found a lot of examples, but for me, I'd want one that was written in a programming language I was comfortable with, so I could enhance it if needed.
