I have a database in mdb format that will not open. When I try to open the file I get an error:
"The Microsoft Access database engine stopped the process because you and another user are attempting to change data at the same time"
I was the only user accessing the database and this occurred after a compact/repair.
Any ideas on how to get the db working again?

Have you tried a repair? https://support.office.com/en-in/article/Compact-and-repair-a-database-6ee60f16-aed0-40ac-bf22-85fa9f4005b2

To repair a corrupt .mdb database of MS Access, one can try Compact and Repair feature of MS Access. It repairs corrupt database and makes it accessible for database users. Other than this one can also use import feature of MS Access that helps database users import their corrupt database to a new database file.
or may try software - such as MDB Viewer Tool from http://www.mdb.viewertool.com/[/url]

If the data is on a network server, use the "Close open File" option (Control Panel | Administrative Tools | Computer management | Shared Folders | Open Files.
Otherwise you can try WhoLockMe.
When you have clean access, you ought to be able to delete the .idb file associated with the .mdb (if there is one; i suspect there is)

First, attempt to rename the .mdb file. If you get access error, then another process has it open.
Also, one of the sysinternals tools can tell you who has the file open.
