your spare time?

  • hi - thought this would be a good way to introduce myself to the forums and as an ice breaker ask what you do you in spare time away from SQL!? ( thats if you have spare time )

my spare time? Help build high end PCs and boxing!

    you?

  • Spare time? Interesting concept as I sit here in an airport traveling back from a user group meeting and posting online here.

Write books and help run a scout troop, occasionally get into kenpo practice, less occasionally get into sword practice, split wood most weekends.

  • I play racquetball which keeps me in shape but also keeps my joints in constant pain. Other evenings I shoot pool (billiards).

What kind of computer games do you guys play? One of my friends is renting a Minecraft server so we can all play together. It's a nice way to play a relaxing game and also keep in touch with friends in other states.

As far as I'm concerned, Rift rocks.

It's got significant similarity to WoW, but allows MUCH more flexible character creation and progression, avoids the cheesy graphics issues, and is MUCH faster paced. More flexibility in play style as well.

For example, in WoW, a priest is pretty much a healer, with very, very little DPS. In Rift, there are cleric builds that don't even have any healing spells because they're so heavy on DPS. There are also melee priest builds that make pretty decent tanks. And any given character, with 2 seconds of "out of combat" status, has the potential to switch back and forth between up to five separate builds. Makes for very fast, very unpredictable PvP, which is quite fun. (My wife doesn't like PvP in any game prior to Rift, but got into it in Rift because it really is fun.)

Similar for warriors. Some are tough tanks, some are crazy-heavy DPS, some are mixes of the two. You can even build a combo Paladin and something comparable to a Deathknight called a "Reaver", in the same build on the same character. Makes for a serious tank when you do!

Every calling (class) has pets available, though the rogue (which includes Ranger [WoW Hunter] as a sub-role) and the mage (necromancer or elementalist sub-role) get the best ones. Druids (priest sub-role) get a couple of fun pets, and Beastmaster (warrior option) get a weird sort of purple panther thing.

Crafting skills can make gear that actually worth using for the whole level range, unlike WoW. If you get the collectors edition or grind up some cash, you can get a mount at level 6, also unlike WoW.

    Definitely worth checking out.

  • I play EVE a bit.

I have a space ship and I shoot other spaceships with it 😉 it's fun.

At the moment I have practically 0 free time. I'm in the process of re-fitting my kitchen so my whole house is a junk yard.

  • Eve is pretty good, i found WOW far too addicting!

  • I've played EVE enough to have two characters with Tech III ships and one with a Command ship (those aren't easy to get into). It's fun enough for a while, but gets really tedious once you can cakewalk the level IV missions.

When was the last time you played WoW? All classes now have a super deeps role (since WotLK).

I canceled my account about a month ago and have been kinda looking for a replacement time waster. I have a friend who plays Dragon Age 2 and says it's cool. But it's not compatible with a Mac 🙁
