linking table from .mdf (sql srv) file into access db?

  i have a pc which doesn't have sql server installed. is it possible to link tables from .mdf file sitting on the pc into access database?

  I have never come across a way to do this - the SQL Server ODBC driver connects with an instance of SQL Server, not by reading the files.

  Can you install the desktop edition of SQL Server and just use that?
