DTS created in SQL 2000 will work in SQl 2005

    Hi,

    I have a doubt regarding DTS

    can we run the DTS created in SQL 2000 server in SQL server 2005?

    For SQL 2000 the utility program is dtsrun.exe

    For SQL 2005 server is it DTSWizard.exe under program files?

    Please help me out

    Can you run DTS packages in SQL 2005?

    In most cases the answer would be yes. There are a few incompatibilities but you can detect these by running the Upgrade advisor utility.

    How to execute "old" DTS packages? You can either start them from a SSIS packager by using the "Execute DTS 2000 Package task" or using dtsexec.exe which replaced dstrun.exe

    Personnally I prefer to transfer any old packages to SSIS. In SSMS there's a Migration Wizard which makes the initial migration really easy. Just Look under Mangement>Legacy>DTS PAckages.
