This is going to sound like a totally dumb question but here goes anyway.....
I heard/read of a rumour around the place (was an article and not a forum but can't remember where) that Windows 2003 SP2 wasn't yet certified by MS to run SQL Server on it. It sounds like a load of rubbish to me but I thought it might be worthwhile throwing it out there to see if anyone else has heard something similar.
I've got mates in the business who run the latest W-SP with latest SS build and no problems but, again, throwing it out to the wider community.

Works fine here and as far as I know, it's supported. Now SQL 2005 wasn't supported on Vista before SQL SP2.

Is that what it was? OK - thanks for the info...
Sorry to have asked a dopey question like that - it's just that I've slept since I read that bit about one of the Service Packs & SQL Server (have to learn to not sleep on my side whereupon all the good info leaks out....

Maybe there's some confusion due to the fact that pre-SP2 versions of SQL Server are not supported on Windows 2003.

It wouldn't surprise me... it's not that hard a job to confuse me some days....
It doesn't make it easier when you can't get a decent cup of coffee in the morning I just came from a presentation that was held at a Hilton of all places and the coffee pot was full - but COLD! What kind of hotel chain has conference rooms and then supplies COLD coffee??? (this is where I usually start into a diatribe about a certain female heiress to the hotel chain but I will resist.... )

I installed SQL2K on Win2K3 Server SP1 last week, which also had SQL2K5 on it.
Prior to install, I got the message that SQL2K SP2 AND below were not supported, please apply SP3 ASAP, yada yada yada, then the installation carried on without a hitch, and it appears to work just fine. Having said that, I would probably not tempt fate on a production server.

Unfortunately, mine *is* destined to be a production server for Data Warehouse guff. The reason the 2000 instance was required because the consultants had advised the business that they needed software from SAS called Xythos (I think) and, apparently, it won't run on 2005.
Yes - the same thought went through my head.... "What backwater chunk of software is this if the vendor says that it won't run on '05??" -- and it's not like SAS is a small company that can't keep up with the times....

"What backwater chunk of software is this if the vendor says that it won't run on '05??"
Probably some company executive heard the old saying "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" and actually believed it.
