The 2009 PASS Community Summit is being held in Seattle, WA this November 2-5, 2009. It's the best SQL Server event to attend for DBAs and other SQL Server professionals with hundreds of Microsoft SQL Server employees coming over to interact with you. If you register today with the SSC3D code, you can save an additional $100 off the current cost ($1395) and come to the Monday night SQLServerCentral party! (you can read about last year here)
First Andy Warren (PASS board member) has talked about networking (Starting Conversations, Networking Results), and now SQLBatman (Thomas LaRock) as well is looking to set up some type of networking assistance at the Summit. They don't have any final details yet, but I'm sure there will be something to help you meet people, and grow your own network. Steve Jones of SQLServerCentral will be participating as well. Any ideas for events are welcome, and we'll see if we can help you meet people.
You can't meet people at a webinar, at a virtual conference, or anywhere but in peron. And while there are lots of free events, none of them bring together over 1,000 SQL Server professionals that share common interests. The PASS Community Summit does and and it's a great conference to attend.
We have written before about the great learning opportunities at the Summit with great speakers and Microsoft developeprs. And those are great reasons to attend, but the chance to meet other professionals is equally important. You will get inspired, make friends, maybe even make contacts that can help you later in your career.
