MS SQL SERVER 2005 beta install problems

  • When I try to install SQL Server 2005 beta I fail the COM+ test.  Can anyone give me a hand on finishing this install.

This is the only failed part of the installation that I have run across and it is driving me crazy.  Can anyone please give me some advice on this.  ERROR BELOW.

""If SQL Server Setup fails, Setup will roll back the installation but may not remove all .manifest files. The workaround is to rename the files and then rerun Setup. For more information, see How to: Work Around COM+ Check Failure in SQL Server Setup.""

    Thanks in advance.

  • How to: Work Around COM+ System Configuration Check Failure in SQL Server Setup

If SQL Server Setup fails, Setup will roll back the installation but may not remove all .manifest files. As a result, subsequent Setup attempts may fail. The workaround is to rename the files and then rerun SQL Server Setup.

    To rename .manifest files

    1. From the Windows desktop, right-click on the Start button, and then select Search.
    2. In the File name field, paste dllhost.exe.manifest.
    3. In the Look in: field, select Local Hard Drives from the drop-down menu, then click Search.
    4. In the search results pane, right-click on the dllhost.exe.manifest file name, and then select Rename.
    5. Update the file name to dllhost.exe.manifest.old.
    6. Repeat the process with each file in the list below until all of the files have been renamed:

      • dllhost.exe.manifest
      • wmiprvse.exe.manifest
      • mmc.exe.manifest
      • w3wp.exe.manifest
      • inetinfo.exe.manifest

    7. Run SQL Server 2005 Setup again.

If Setup still fails, install the snap-in for Component Services. To install the Component Services Snap-in

    1. From the Windows desktop, click Start and then select Run.
    2. In the Open: field, type MMC, and then click Ok.
    3. In the Console window, click File on the menu bar, and then select Add/Remove Snap-in.
    4. In the Add/Remove Snap-in window, click Add...
    5. In the Add Standalone Snap-in window, select Component Services from the list of Snap-ins, and then click Add.
    6. Click Close to close the Add Stand-alone Snap-in window, and then click OK to close the Add/Remove Snap-in window.
    7. In the Console Root\Component Services window, expand the Component Services tree. This is where any error message would occur if there was a problem with COM+.
    8. Run SQL Server 2005 Setup again. If you get an error message, reinstall COM+.

    To reinstall COM+

    1. From Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel, click on Add/Remove Windows Components.
    2. In the Windows Components Wizard window, click Next without making any selection changes.
    3. Click through to complete the Wizard, and then run SQL Server 2005 Setup again.
