  When I applied MSDE2k SP3, I got the message "The installtion package could not be opened. Ask the vendor ..."

  I called MS support, he told me that the msi file is needed from the vendor for SP installtion, but the vendor said the .ini file needs to be modified.

  Any ideas?

  We've had problems with MSDE as well. What did the vendor say needed modifying in .ini? If you're just looking to protect from SQL Slammer, take a look at grabbing the Critical Update:
