error connecting to sql server

    I get the following error while trying to cupsize a databsae connectio failed: sqlstate: 01000 sql server error: 5

    Microsoft ODBC SQL Server Driver Named Pipes ConnectionOpen Connect Connection failed SQLState 08001 SQL Server Error 17 Microsoft ODBC SQL Server Driver Named Pipes SQL Server does not exist or access denied

    When you try to make the connection does it ask for the logon id and password? Are you sure they are correct? Have you tested the ODBC driver from inside the ODBC Administrator to make sure it can connect? It sounds as if the driver itself may be flawed in some way.

    Not really Access but: Does your server have an instance name? e.g. server\inst1 If so you will need MDAC 2.6 or better on all clients connecting to it.
