SP3 for SQL2K on cluster problems

  • I'm attempting to upgrade a SQL Server 2K(RTF)on a cluster (Windows 2K - SP2).

At first, setup couldn't verify SQL Server state. A change to the TEMP and TMP environment variables on both nodes fixed that. Further attempts failed on the cluster portion of the install (as far as I can tell). At the end of sqlsp.log it states that "One or more errors occurred while running the remote/unattended setups".

A couple of curious notes regarding the cluster configuration:

MSDTC is not in the same cluster group as the other SQL Server resources. It's in the Cluster Group.

The SQL Server resources group properties specifies one node of the cluster as the preferred owner, but not the other.

Would any of the above factors be related to SP3 intall failures? (Thanks in advance to all who reply).

  • This is also sounds like me (found in Microsoft's discussion boards -no reply yet)

    Subject: Cluster install failed

I tried to install cluster SQL 2000 following MSKB

243218. After I waited for 5 min from a screen "setup is

performing required operationa on cluster nodes, this may

take a few minutes...", it errors out "Setup failed to

perform required operations on the cluster nodes".

Before installing I made sure the W2K cluster is working

fine. I checked sqlstp.log, it says "the system cannot

find file specified". What does this mean?

    Thanks.

    .

  • Can you post the sqlsp.log files from both nodes.

  • We migrated SQL cluster resources to a Clarion unit and there were SQL Server registry keys pointing to the wrong drive letters. Once the keys were edited to point to the new drives, the SP3 install went ok.

    Thanks anyway.
