I need to be able to periodically (1/min) query an Oracle DB to find out if a lot of material has been registered as delivered to a manufacturing point. I'm running SQL 2000 SP3a. It seems that a linked server arrangement might be best, but we could use any method from DTS to VB. I'm asking for suggestions and any details on what one actually has to do/load on our SQL box to access the Oracle DB over the LAN. The research I've done has 'suggested' that the Oracle SQL Client software has to be loaded to make OLEDB providers available. Is this true for both Microsoft and Oracle drivers?
Hints, allegations, and outright balderdash readily accepted.
