I want to connect to sybase on unix platform through query analyzer...
Can i connect the same way as i used to read excel file through opendatasource method?
I am having merant drivers which allows to create a dsn for that database can i use that in opendatasource method?
Or is there any method or tool through which i can connect to sybase and having the functionality of sql query analyzer
Thanks in Advance...

Hi, Prakash
You could add sybase as a linked server to sql, but that will be slow. Then you could the linked server syntax (openquerie or ...)
You could try to connect the qa to sybase by odbc, i don't think that will work.
At sybase you also have client tools with the same functionalilty as qa (without the explorer), i think it is called isql

Klaas-Jan,
Not having rights to do linked server....
you are right can't connect to ODBC through QA.
sybase may be having ISQL but can it be installed on windows and connect to unix?

I do believe you could still use OPENDATASOURCE, however the drivers have to be installed on the SQL Server which you connect to, not your local machine. Also, if you are wanting the functionality of QA I don't know a particular tool that works with Sybase but several threads have mention apps before. If you do thru OPENDATASOURCE there are major performance hits.
