Yesterday SQLServerCentral crossed the 1 million registered member mark, which is a huge milestone for our community. In celebration of this great milestone, SQLServerCentral and Red Gate Software have decided to do a few things to mark the occassion.
Steve Jones, the editor of SQLServerCentral, has tried to keep in the forefront of his mind that there is more to life than just work, and there is more to running this site than it's profits. So in line with that, after a bit of brainstorming, we have decided that we will sponsor 1 million square feet of rainforest, as a way of helping preserve the natural resources in the world.
We're working with the World Land Trust, preserving a little over a million square feet of land in Ecuador. It's a small start, but it recognizes that there is more to the world than just the US, the UK, or SQL Server.
We've also set up pages at First Giving (for the US) and JustGiving (for the UK) for any of you in the SQLServerCentral Community that would like to participate, to make a donation yourself.
100 Shirts
We also recognize that many of you out there in the communty have participated quite a bit in our growth. Steve doesn't like to just give things away to the top performers, however, so once again our giveaways are set as random choices from the community. We've drawn one hundred random names from our list of members and sent an email to them informing them of their prizes. As soon as they get back to us with addresses and sizes, we'll be shipping out polo shirts for them.
Thanks to All
Thanks to everyone for their participation in the community and we hope to continue growing the community by providing you with the best SQL Server information on the Internet. If you didn't win anything this time, stay tuned as we'll be doing more random drawings in the future as we continue to hit new milestones
