I have seen the same or similar threads many times. For example, in the Question Of the Day forum there are three different threads for the August 28th Question of the Day.
Is there a way to link them together?
At another site I use, I can add a post and link to another by using the word THREAD followed by the forum and thread numbers.
Can we do that here? It would help with the following;
One or more similar posts could be linked together.
Someone who accidentally posts two or more times could add an 'oopppss, this was a mistake, please use post .....'
If someone posts a question that has been answered before, someone could post a link to the earlier thread.
Just a thought....

would be sometimes really nice.
I think, only special users in Snitz, like moderators or admins, could, if at all possible, move or merge threads.
Another approach could be to select carefully to create a new thread or reply to an existing

Frank,
I agree about moving or merging threads. But let us say I see a post about datetime datatype and I know of a great thread that covers the same subject. I should be able to respond with something like:
See thread1234 and it should create a hyperlink to take the reader directly to that post (maybe open it in a new window).
Likewise, if I accidentally post a question twice, I should be able to say:
I made a mistake and posted this twice. Please respond in thread5678, thanks.
_By the way, congrats on the cash award!

In fact, if you know the topic ID which comes along with every subscription mail, why not place somethings like:
'See http://www.sqlservercentral.com/forum/link.asp?TOPIC_ID=15871 for further details'

thanks!
Hope on average my posts are of any value.

Well, your posts are definitely of help. I never even thought about the option you suggested.
It would be nice if we could just use the category id, forum id and topic id and automatically have it as a link. For example, to link to this post instead of:
I would like to be able to do this:
Thread5-4-15844
and have it become a link.
(5 is the Cat_ID, 4 is the FOURM_ID, and 15844 is the TOPIC_ID)

We're still evaluating discussion software. I agree I'd like to see smaller links, but I dont have fondness at all for real threaded discussions. I usually just post the link, if someone is interested, they can follow.
Once we pick something, we'll see what happens I guess!
