I'm having a problem of missing performance counters for sql.
I've tried unlodctr and then lodctr to add the counters, however this does not fix the problem. I am getting an error showing up in the event log stating...
quote:
Installing the performance counter strings for MSSQLServer failed. TheError code is DWORD 0 of the Record Data.
Does anyone have any experience of this?

Check SQL Server errorlog for error 'Performance monitor shared memory setup failed: -1'. If you see it, It is a bug of SQL Server and you need call Microsoft for the fix.

That's the one.
We'll be contacting MS this afternoon. Thanks for your help.

It's a recognised bug, shut performance monitor on the server console before restarting the sql services.
Will help avoid a call to PSS, if you've not already done so.
