Hi,
just wondering if I could get some general comments from people who've upgraded from v7 to 2000, plus service packs.
I've worked with SQL for a few years, but this will be my first upgrade. From what Microsoft says, all it takes is to install, click upgrade, and everything will be "sweet as pie".
Is this true? Obviously I'll have backups of my dbs, but what about my DTS packages, my maintenance plans, my scheduled jobs, backup devices, as well as security rights. All this will stay intact?
Also, I plan to implement Service packs at the same time - whats the best SP to level out at?

Definitely do the backups, save a copy of all the DTS packages, script out the jobs and the logins with passwords (Steve Jones has an article on the site for this).
I have done a bunch (just completed one about an hour ago) and they usually go smooth. Note the usually. I have had to roll everything back one time and I am EXTREMELY thankful that I had done everything listed above.
Go right to SP3 or you will be open to the Slammer worm.
