Hey,
We have a problem here with a linked server. We run SQL7 and I have connected to SQL2K over the WAN. Due to politics and all that, they don't want us to replicate so we simply copy the tables we require. We also push data to their servers too.
This morning, a job failed with the following error..
OLE DB provider 'SQLOLEDB' reported an error. [SQLSTATE 42000] (Error 7399) [SQLSTATE 01000] (Error 7312). The step failed.
To fix this, I simply right clicked on the Linked Server and Refreshed it. The job now worked fine. I have had other jobs fail with the same error on occasion.
Could this be due to us using SQL7 and linking to SQL2K (We will be upgrading soon!)?! At first, I thought maybe they had rebooted their server or possibly doing maintenance work on them.
Any thoughts/suggestions?
Thanks,
Clive Strong

I'd guess network issue. Could be versioning.
Is there a reason you don't use DTS?

Hey Steve,
Thanks for the response...
I could try a DTS. Basically I am running a SP on the server in the US office.
I'll create it in a DTS and see if that resolves things.
Thanks
