Can''t open user default database - Help

  • On the server itself I open the Eenterprise Manager and try to expand the server group and the server but I get a message "cannot open user default datebase"

    However, from a client PC I am able to open and expand the server and view as normal.

    I have tried stopping and starting the server service details but to no avail. At first I thought it may be broken logins and I can categorically say that nothing has been done to the server in the sense of restore, config etc. It just happened like that.

    All but one job seems to be failing againg with the message "cannot open user default database"

  • well check for the login which you are using to open the enterprise manager and see what is the default database given for that particular login. The error message is clear that the deafult database which  you had given for the user no longer exists or some other problem.

    So first of all check what is the deafault database given for this particular login and if it exists or not..

    This message comes up when user does not have permissions to his/her default database. Like SomeLogin has a default database Pubs but in the login properties on the Database tab there is no chekmark whatsoever on the line for the Pubs database and no permissions defined.

    Check the Registration Properties in the Enterprise Manager for this server and give this person permissions to his default database or change his default database.

    Or change the Login Name in the Registration Properties to connect to your server.
