I have seen some articles which were published in SSC in the http://www.sswug.org site.
Is it a same group doing that site as well?

Andy Warren, Brian Knight, and Steve Jones run this site. Steve Wynkoop runs sswug. We know each other, but that's it.
sswug is an aggregator of content for the most part for SQL Server, DB2 and Oracle, so they might link over to our sites, but there is no integration or anything shared. SQL Server Central.com is a community devoted to SQL Server only.

Dinesh,
Steve or someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but....
Let's say I write an article. I own that article and can submit it wherever I want to. So I can submit it to this site and to sswug.
However, when I submit it to most sites I give them the right to republish it without paying me a royalty. (This is where Steve can correct me if I'm wrong).
That's why you can see an article appear in several places.

Yes and no. Some sites want to hold the copyright. We don't. Not sure about SSWUG. We do ask that you do not submit anywhere else for 90days if you send it here.
As far as republish, not sure what you mean. SSWUG doesn't AFAIK have the content on their site, merely a link back to here. That is something we don't control. However, if you submit an article for the web here, we get an additional permission slip from you before reprublishing in the Best Of book we do.

Dear All,
I have no problem with publishing my article in other web sites.
I just want to know the connection becuase at SSWUG they charge some amount to be a member while SSC won't charge. I think that is y SSC is more popular than the other.

I fail to see why the SSWUG charge as I doubt they have anything available that is not available elsewhere, and in some sense it goes against the whole idea of the internet anyway.
I do realise that running a web site, such as this, must be time consuming and I'm truly grateful for and in awe of those who do. Without them my job over the past 10 years would have been more difficult.

SSWUG is not just a website for information on SQL Server. It's an official organization (SQL Server WorldWide User's Group). They just happen to also operate a website for their members.
When you join you get a membership ID number that gets you discounts at conferences. There are some conferences that only SSWUG members are invited to.
You also get a years subscription of SQL Server Magazine (I think that's the one you get).

well............... all websites are official we have http://www.sqlserverfaq.com for the UK user group for instance, it has offers and such for users.
Before the SSWUG started charging I used the site often, however to declare yourself the worldwide user group is maybe optimistic , I wonder which site has most hits/users for sql server anyway. Take your point about their official site however ........ I still question the value of the subscription route.
I suppose the very very mild irritation I have with the SSWUG site is that when you search globally for sql things their pages often appear in the search results but when you click on the article link you find you have to pay to read the information.

We try realllly hard to keep this a free site. That's why you see those banners all over the place. We feel it's what has led us to nearly a million page views each month at this point.
As to the reposting item, if you do send us an article, it doesn't give us the right to send it elsewhere. We do however send out agreements that you can opt in or out of for the Best of SQLServerCentral.com Book each year. If you opt-in, you see your name in print. We really don't make any kind of money on it though but get some good press nonetheless.

My two cents. Use SSWUG or whatever other resources work for you. We certainly believe there is room for more than one community about SQL. We'd like to think we're the best (and biggest), but it's not a contest we have to win to be successful.
For my money PASS is the official SQL group - if you're going to spend some money, I wish you'd do it with them first, then look to other additional places that also want/deserve your dollars.
We're committed to keeping the site free and to limiting the amount and type of ads you see, plus limiting the "tricks" some sites employ to increase their page view count. If we broke each article into four pages we'd get more views, but it would be a lot less useable.

Well, I used to be a member of SSWUG....but I quit after a year. I had posted queries to their site and couldn't get any answers. I also noticed that there just wasn't a lot of posts/answers. But every post I put on their site, I also posted here. Guess where I got my answers from? That's right - SQLServerCentral. I use another site also, but it only provides answers to posts. This site also has scripts, articles, QOD, and the BEST OF..... A lot more for my money at this site.
