Purge XLANG Database

  • Hi All,

Our XLANG database of production BizTalk server has gorwn to about 22 GB. A purge of old data is planned. Microsoft provides a Xlang_Purge_Script.sql to create stored procedures to purge XLANG's data. I wonder if the SPs purge any customer data, how critical these history data are, and what the normal practice to purge old data on XLANG.

Thanks a lot for your inputs.

  • Hi Yichang,

I've started to work with BizTalk only recently. First of all, I guess you should ask this question in the BizTalk groups (microsoft.public.biztalk).

    Anyway, here is my opinion.

I do not believe there is any 'important' information in the XLANG database. It only contains information on schedules that are running. Stupidly enough, Microsoft has decided not to purge any of the data in there once the schedule runs to completion.

I would say you can purge the information without any problem. All important information is recorded in the tracking databases (all information concerning documents that were sent and received) and in the Messaging Management database (the configuration of the Messaging Services).

Furthermore, I believe you might run into the same problems with the Shared Queue database, since this contains messages that are being treated. But I think old entries are not purged automatically from that database either.

As a conclusion, I would say that it is safe to schedule the execution of XLANG_Purge_Script.sql on a regular basis without any harm to your companies data.
