Improvements being done...........

  • I had sent an email complaining about problems I was having with the new site and not being able to format my posts. After emailing Andy back and forth, I found out that Internet Explorer 5.5 doesn't work well with the site (Andy and the rest are working on a fix for that). But I went ahead and upgraded to IE 6 and all works fine.

Now to the reason for this post. Andy apologized for the problems and I said he doesn't need to be sorry. This is his response followed by my latest response.

    From Andy:

Plenty reason to be sorry, we live and breath cust service, kills us to have problems.

    From me:

It's one thing to live and breathe customer service and do nothing; it's another to live and breathe customer service and do everything you possibly can.

All of you do the latter. It's not like you've been ignoring requests and suggestions. As all of you have said over and over again, you're fixing everything as you can get to it...there are priorities so it may take awhile to get our suggestions/requests taken care of.

New ways of doing things always have growing pains. It's the nature of the beast. If we never upgraded until all the bugs are worked out, everyone would still be using Microsoft Windows 3.x.

I say that you are all doing a great job, Thanks. -SQLBill

To everyone reading this, remember this is a new way of doing things, lets help Andy and the rest make this the best SQL Server site there it. But in doing so, lets remember that they do have bugs to fix and along with that they are trying to implement all of our suggestions for improvements. Everything can't be done at once.

  • True words, indeed !

I would only like to add, that having a full-time job, a family AND such a large site to maintain is more than I would ask for.

I have all respect there is for Andy, Brian and Steve and I think it should be finally honoured by filing  ?!? them for this

  • Brian is an MVP, but certainly I hold Andy and Steve in just as high regard as anyone bearing that title. This site is a valuable service to the SQL Server community and all three work hard to make it a better place. In case anyone is interested, here is the list of SQL Server MVPs:

  • Man, I should check the page you've mentioned more frequently. It seems to get longer and longer each day.

Since when is Brian a MVP?

  • Brian recently got MVP status and we're thrilled and proud of him.

It's a tough battle keeping up with the site, especially now with ASP.NET since I'm a little out of the loop on the technology. So two guys trying to work the site, but all changes funnel through Andy for source control, so as he gets buried the pace slows. We're trying and thanks for understanding.

  • On the bright side as we're going through this process we're back in a place where we can accomodate requests for improvements. The old code (asp) just had gotten to the point that maintaining it wasn't worth the work. That's not to blame ASP entirely - we certainly helped created the problem!
