Upgrade from SQL7 to SQL2K

  • Hi all,

I'm trying to upgrade from SQL7 to SQL2K. The issue is the Upgrade Wizard doesn't work.

Our SQL7 Server Engine is located in C: drive, and the data and log are saved in E: drive. I used the Upgrade Wizard, but the upgrading stoped by the step of "Setup is initializing the server for the upgrade process...". And this step seemed to last forever.

Our DB is about 700MB. According to the Microsoft, upgrading should be done within one hour.

What happened? and How to upgrade? Any Ideas?

    Thanks!

  • I ran in to the same problem with my upgrade and the log to the model database had filled up and locked up the upgrade. We could not recover to 7.0 and we could not continue with the upgrade. I ended up calling Microsoft. We started the database from the command line only recovering the master database. I can't remember the switch, but you might be able to find it in BOL. Then we detached the orignal model database, copied the model database files from the SQL 2000 CD, reattached the new database, then restarted the upgrade. It worked fine after that.

If your model database is not full you might try the fix in article Q300676.

  • Any chance your are trying to go from 7.0 Enterprise to 2000 Standard?
