  One of my batch jobs failed over night with the following error:

  Could not open FCB for invalid file ID 14170 in database ....... [SQLSTATE HY000] (Error 5180)

  Has anyone got any ideas about what this means, what caused it and how I might fixed it (other than restarting the service)?

  The on line part of the application seems to be working OK so I am a bit confused as to why it is just the batch side that seems to be affected.

  Did you already run a checkdb in the database? If not, do it and tell us if it shows any errors at the end.
