SQL Server Utils? Can't get BackExec to get the my Domain controller (media Server for BU Exec) to remotely BU my SQL Server. Says I need (event ID 57858)MS SQL Server Utils. Where are these found? Email responce if you like James@craig.net or post here

Sounds like part of BackupExec...dont use it myself.

I know there is a add-in that needs to be installed on the SQL Server that allows backup exec to connect to the DBMS. Should be supplied by Veritas, at a price of course.
Don't use it either anymore. One victory!!!

So, I get why you wouldn't want to use Backup Exec...
What are you guys using now? Arcserve?

I use SQL backup to disk and then backup the SQL backup file to tape with Veritas. I just pass on the direct Veritas connector to SQL to perform the backup.

If you want to use the Backup Exec directly, you need the MS SQL Server Agent (version specific) from Veritas. This way you can choose to backup either the filegroups or the database directly. I use this for production but for test, I just have a plain remote agent, stop the database server, backup the data files and restart the server after the job.
