Please tell me how to change the sql server default date setting from
yyyy-mm-dd to dd-mm-yy.

For input formats, have a look at SET DATEFORMAT in bol. This changes the interpreted format of text dates when entered into datetime variables/columns. Otherwise I think the language setting of the SQl install determines the default.
If you want to change the output format, I use Convert - see bol and don't bother with cast, because the extra argument in convert is needed - and convert the field to a char in the required format.

thanks paul
I tried to user DATEFORMAT. but, it's applicable to that session only. It's not allowing me to change the total system time. When i try to execute this query SELECT GETDATE(). I should the current date in dd-mm-yy format. I have got this problem when i am trying to submit the data from a form using ASP. I am getting an error saying problem with converting data from character type to datetime.
Is it possible to change the default language settings and date format?
