i am installing sql server using desktop edition everything is go well, its checking msdtc, mmc,when it comes to starting the service before finishing the installing sql server " the error is unable to start the service check cnfvg.err log file when i check it nothing is visible. after trying some combinations i successfully finish my installation but when i start my service manager it shows starting but doesn't the status to running what could be the problem

Have you double checked that the userid & password you're using for the service is correct and has disk permissions?

It depends, the service control is obviously unable to complete the server start most likely getting stuck looking for a missing component. Can you post the contents of your cnfvg.err file. You may also want to install the current MDAC as this was reported to be an issue with some installs.
