is the AG mirror set to asynch or synch, as failover did not occur presumably its set to manual?
please supply as much detail as possible including the database synch state

I really hope the OP got the problem resolved or called in an expert. If I were the client, I'd be steaming by now if my stuff was still down. @=)

Iin my case one same scenario in always on
AG group is in synronus- automatic with windows failover setup
Can any one reply on this when primary is down not accessible, also automatic failover not occurred to secondary and size of the database is huge as 40 tb
Client dont want to loos the data and want immediate recovery of the situation in secondary application should run with out loss of data
how to recover always on in secondary server online with out data loss
Thanks

If the secondary is synchronous - with automatic failover and the primary goes down then SQL Server will failover to the secondary with no data loss.
Your scenario doesn't make sense.
If this actually happened then we would need a lot more information on what occurred. There are scenarios where automatic failover will not occur - but that depends on many factors. For example, how is your cluster configured - how is the AG configured - do you have nodes in the cluster with node weight set to 0? Is your file witness in a third DC and accessible from both primary and DR sites? Are you using a cloud witness - accessible from both sites?
Of course - it also depends on what happened. Is it just a network issue between sites - hardware issue - something else?

Dear 'Jeffrey Williams
I have gone through all these what ever you have explained in detail
Me-- actually this is a question in one of the interview where he asked same scenario i said automatic failover occurs if primary and secondary both are in syn and automatic
Interviewer -- he said it should happen automatic failover in general, but some case it not happened and also as a dba it is not in you hand or in your side
Me-- I said i will try to investigate on which side whether it might be in cluster side ( will reach wintel / windows team ) to find the root cause , if it is in network side i will reach network team
Interviewer -- he said we dont have time as primary is down , so client want immediate up of the application has to run , so recover teh database without loss
I said in those scenario there might be some data loss any how , as unexpected primary down and failover not occurred, hence i will try to up the secondary, with minimal amount of data loss using failover command with allow data loss
is this explanation correct or anything else need to add , or AM I missing anything .
Thanks

So either this is a very bad interview question - or there are missing details from the question. There is no way you can answer the question correctly - so maybe the question is only meant to start a discussion and see how you would move forward to determine root cause and provide a solution.
Then again - maybe not, and the interviewer has a specific answer they are looking for with minimal information given. I certainly hope that isn't the case but it wouldn't be the first time I have seen these kinds of questions in an interview.

typically bad questions from someone who doesn’t fully understand the technology.
