Oops! Apologies

,

So, I messed up. In my calendar on Friday were the words, "Database Weekly." That's because I was supposed to put this editorial together and put out the Database Weekly. But I messed up. I was traveling on Friday. Not an excuse, but it's why I messed up. I'm sorry.

However, what I did this morning, when I realized I had messed up, was to immediately post a message to the boss. I let her know I'd messed up and that I was going to fix it. Hence, my editorial today is a simple one.

Own your mistakes.

We all make them. It happens. It's nothing I'm proud of, but I mess up... it feels like pretty regularly. I remember, a loooooonnnnng time ago, hearing how Admiral Rickover was talking about how he would have a mistake-free nuclear Navy because after all "No one walks up to the wrong car or the wrong house and tries to unlock it." Yet... I've tried to unlock the wrong car. And I know others who have done the same. I've even had a couple of people admit to me that they tried to unlock the neighbors house.

We all make mistakes, big ones and small ones. Easiest thing to do to deal with them is to just own 'em. Admit the error. Apologize. Put in the efforts to prevent that error from happening again. Move on.

This is me. I did it. Apologies.
