SQL Server is licenced on a per core basis so you need to make sure your new server has the same number of cores as the old server otherwise you will need to pay for the additional licences.

It's always best to check with your licence provider to make sure you are covered.

    Thanks

  • Thank you the new server has these specifications  sockets:2
                                                                                       Cores:12
So how many licences do i need, i am trying to understand how the licencing works,i am new to SqL

Thank you so much for your help

As I mentioned it's always best to speak to your licence provider to get this as licensing can be a minefield.

    Thanks
