SQL Replication - 2016 to 2008 r2

    I understand SQL Server is supported for replication from versions two up and two down.  However will replication actually work from 2016 to 2008 r2 even though it may not be supported?  We are looking for a short term solution (1 month) where our publication DB must be upgraded before the subscriber.

    I had Snapshot and Transactional replication setup from a 2016 to a 2008 R2 without any issues for a short period. No issues with it.
    2016 - both replication and distributor.
    2008 R2 - subscriber.
