I agree, this use of aggregated data across companies selling a similar product to create de facto price fixing should be illegal in all industries. That is much different than a service for consumers that finds the seller with the lowest price available for a specific item, which I welcome.
I also have no problem with employers across industries using a scheme like this to determine the market salaries for various jobs. The problem, of course, is that job titles mean different things in different companies, and even if job descriptions are identical between jobs in different companies, the entire compensation package has to be adjusted for when comparing salaries and many companies don't dig that deep, thinking they don't have to pay more than market rates if their leave policies, retirement contributions, and insurance benefits are not also competitive.
